One of the unexpected things about grief is how it can suddenly surprise us with overwhelming emotions. At Smile Again we talk to parents who have lost a child that they need to realize that the grief journey they are on will be a life-long journey. We don't mean that the emotions and struggles that we experience right after the loss of our child will last a lifetime. But we do mean that the death of our child affects us for the rest of our lives.
We have the opportunity to speak to people in open forums about death and grieving and one question that is often asked is, "Do people come to Smile Again even if it's been several years since their child has died?" The answer is yes. You see, the death of a child continues to affect our relationships with others, anxieties we have regarding our other children's health, basically every aspect of our lives. We've found that some type of structured help after a child dies is a very effective tool in helping individuals deal in a healthy way with their grief.
Right now we have several openings in our calendar for families to come to Whitetail Lodge. So if you've been thinking of coming, or know of someone who has, this is an excellent time for them to contact us about a stay at Whitetail Lodge. The cost is just $50 per night per bedroom suite (each suite can sleep up to five people).
If you're a friend of someone who's lost a child please let them know about SAM. Then follow up a week or two later to see if they have any questions about coming to Smile Again. Thanks for helping us get the word out to hurting families. We love you, Pat & Judy
