Thanksgiving Memories and Blessings
The smell of pecan pie is filling our kitchen as we get ready to celebrate Thanksgiving with our kids and grandkids and Judy’s side of the family. We know it’s going to be a house filled with little voices talking about Christmas gifts, and adult voices talking about the latest happenings in the family.
And for Judy and me there will be an empty spot around the table. A spot where Mickey should be sitting, probably with a husband of her own and a family of little ones joining their cousins in laughter and play. But Mickey won’t be there. It will be our 26th year without Mickey’s smile at our Thanksgiving table.
Judy and I won’t be alone in our thoughts either. Several families that have come to Whitetail Lodge will find themselves feeling the same emotions, and missing their children just like we will. For some this will be their first Thanksgiving without their child. For others, it will be longer.
Judy and I would like to encourage those of you who are looking at that empty spot around the table this year to take a moment to remember. Yes, there may be tears. Yes, there may even be smiles. But don’t be afraid to remember and give thanks for the life that was and the joy that life brought you.
For those of you who are extra blessed by having all of your children with you this Thanksgiving, pause to give thanks for their lives. If you know of a family that lost a child, consider giving them a call, or an email, or a text just to let them know you’re remembering their son or daughter. Trust me it will mean the world to them.
We are praying that God’s riches blessings will fill each of your homes as you gather for Thanksgiving this year. We love you, Pat & Judy
